WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE DEVOTED TO

PIUS X       1835 - 1914       POPE AND SAINT

He lived his life by the motto that he chose at his elevation to the papacy in 1903

Instaurare omnia in Christo   -   To restore all things in Christ

A purpose of this website is to celebrate the memory of this holy saint and pope who had very little patience with those who cast doubt on Catholic teachings and practices, and to lament the activities of all those who today, a century later, are publicly denouncing Church policies.

The Novus Ordo Breviary Officium Divinum - Liturgia Horarum has the following thumbnail sketch of the life of Pius X for his feast day August 21:

Natus est in pago Riese intra Venetorum fines anno 1835.

LIFE OF POPE PIUS X

Giuseppe Melchior Sarto was elected Pope in 1903 and took the name of Pius X in honor of previous namesakes who spent their papacies combating oppression. During his pontificate some leaders of the Modernist movement sought to change traditional teachings of the Church and the saintly Pius X spent much of his pontificate strenuously opposing them.  He condemned these errors in his 1907 encyclical Pascendi dominici gregis, and excommunicated several Modernist scholars. Our recent Popes Paul VI and John Paul II exhibited much more patience than Pius X in their dealings with those who, like Archbishop Lefebvre, flaunted Church policies. Pius X died in 1914 on the eve of the First World War.  Click on BioPiusX and BioLefeb for more details.

ROLE OF LATIN IN THE CHURCH

The official documents of the Second Vatican Council assert: the use of the Latin language is to be preserved, and steps should be taken so that the faithful may be able to say or to sing together in Latin those parts of the Ordinary of the Mass which pertain to them.”  For further proof that the Church has not abandoned Latin click on Latin and FSSP

THE TRADITIONAL MASS

In 1970 when Pope Paul VI promulgated his Novus Ordo Mass in the vernacular it met with a mixed reception.  Many were enthusiastic about it and others wanted to revert back to the traditional Latin Mass. This made it difficult to implement the establishment of the new Mass, so the celebration of Tridentine Masses was temporarily suspended.  We are grateful that more recently Traditional Latin Masses are being celebrated on a regular basis in many cities. VALIDITY OF THE NOVUS ORDO MASS

Those members of SSPX, the Society of St. Pius X, who claim that the new (Novus Ordo) Mass is invalid are simply wrong.  To demonstrate this we compare the Canon of the Tridentine Mass with the Latin language version of Novus Ordo Eucharistic Prayer I and show that the two are almost identical in their essential wording.  To see this proof click on Validity.  See also PriestMass

REFORMING THE CHURCH

Down through the centuries the Church has had its ups and downs, from time to time falling into disrepute, in dire need of reform. When this happens devoted individuals come forth to bring about a reform.  Many reformers remain in the Church, are very persistent, and eventually succeed.  Other so-called reformers leave the Church, lapse into schism or heresy, and form their own church.  Secessionists invariably consider themselves as leaders of the true form of Christianity, and denounce the Catholic Church. Jesus told us: “I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit because without me you can do nothing.  Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither” (John 15:5,6).  For more click on Reform and BioLefeb.

Priests of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, a religious order of the Catholic Church, seek to preserve our traditions by always celebrating Mass in Latin using the 1962 Tridentine Rite. For details click on FSSP, or visit the Fraternity website www.fssp.com

PREDICTION OF A NEW POPE

In 1989 SSPX Published the book Archbishop Lefebvre and the Vatican to present their side of the controversy with Rome, and the cover of this book is displayed below.  It contains portraits of the Archbishop and three popes, namely: Paul VI (1963-1978), John Paul II (1978-2005), and Benedict XVI (2005- ).  It is ironic that in 1989 SSPX was able to predict that their nemesis Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger would be elected Pope sixteen years later.
